Sermon-Based Small Group

The sermon-based small group meets on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Each week, we discuss the previous Sunday’s sermon and related life application questions. Everyone is welcome!

Sermon Questions

1.  What stood out to you most from this message, and why?

2.  Jesus warned His disciples to “be on your guard” against the influence around them. What voices or influences in our culture are the hardest for you to guard against?

3.  What is something our culture teaches that sounds good, but may actually conflict with what God’s Word teaches?

4.  On the mountain, Peter immediately wanted to do something, but God told him to listen to Jesus. Why is it sometimes easier for us to “do something for God” rather than simply be still and listen to Him?

5.  The message says, “Your calling is not your identity.” How can our jobs, ministries, accomplishments, parenting, or other responsibilities begin to become our identity?

6.  The message talks about trying to build our own personal “Garden of Eden”—trying to create the life we think will finally make us secure or satisfied. Do you feel like you are trying to build your personal “garden” instead of letting God lead you?

7.  Jesus told Peter to fish in a way that probably didn’t make sense to an experienced fisherman. Has God ever asked you to obey Him in an area where His way seemed inconvenient, uncomfortable, or contrary to what made sense to you?

8.  How can we use the skills, profession, resources, and opportunities God has already given us for His glory?

9.  Where do you sense God asking you to trust Him right now—to stop trying to build your own garden, be still and listen, or simply do something His way?
